The Oldenburgisches Staatstheater

A vivid variety of opera, drama and dance on various stages
The Oldenburgisches Staatstheater, founded in 1833 and the smallest State Theatre in Germany today, presents itself as a lively place for theatre of six types (opera, drama, dance, theatre for children and youth, classical concerts and Low-German theatre) at four different venues (Großes Haus, Kleines Haus, Exerzierhalle, Spielraum). Chief Executive and Artistic Director Markus Müller and his young team focus on long-lasting co-operations with a consistent ensemble of actors, singers and dancers in order to allow for a growing identification of the citizens of Oldenburg with their theatre, located at the centre of the city. A colourful and extensive programme of repertory-productions as well as a selection of festivals and guest performances also ensures artistic diversity and programmatic variety. The theatrical productions of the directors- and authors-in-residence as well as those of regularly hired interesting guests are often well-received as works with individual and concise styles by press and experts from all over the nation.
In addition to the continuous repertory of opera-, drama-, dance- and concerts-performances several international festivals as well as international co-operations round up the programme of the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater:

Internationale Tanztage – International Dance Festival
Every other year Internationale Tanztage invites dance companies from all over the world to perform during the two-week festival on the theatre’s stages. Internationally renown choreographers and companies meet here with newcomers and rarely seen artists. An extensive framework program includes events such as workshops, screenings, open air performances and parties for dance professionals and audiences alike. Following the very well received 10th anniversary of the festival in 2011, Internationale Tanztage at Oldenburgisches Staatstheater will take place again in 2013 from 9th to 20th April.

Go West – Theatre from Flanders and the Netherlands
February 23rd to 26th 2012

Go West, the festival for theatre from Flanders and the Netherlands, reflects the diversity of theatre in those countries and aims to take inspiration from their different theatrical approaches for the artistic work at the Staatstheater, especially by forming partnerships and collaborations that outlast the festival. At Go West 2012 a co-production between the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater, Frascati Amsterdam and the performance group andcompany+Co will be presented alongside collaborations with the Kopergietery from Gent and with Club Guy+Roni from Groningen.

PAZZ – International Performing Arts Festival
April 20th to 29th 2012
Founded in 2008, the international performing arts festival PAZZ will turn the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater into a market place for international theatre of all formats and artistic approaches for the third time in April 2012. The focus of PAZZ lies on presenting a wide range of performances from all over the world while at the same time creating opportunities for international theatre professionals to meet and mingle in workshops, discussions and at parties, building a network for artistic friendships as well as collaborations and other creative exchanges.
